‘Hummingbird Island’ Midwives
Morgan and Evaly merged their practices, Hummingbird Midwifery and Island Midwifery, in 2019 to bring more availability, more life and birth experience, and more diverse perspectives to our families. We lovingly call ourselves ‘Hummingbird Island’ to honor the practices we each founded before joining forces as a midwifery team.
Morgan West, LM, CPM (she/her)
Morgan is a California-licensed midwife, Certified Professional Midwife, and the founder of Hummingbird Midwifery. She believes that every family deserves skilled and compassionate support to have a healthy and empowered birth.
Before becoming a midwife, she earned her B.S. in Neuroscience from Lafayette College. During her undergraduate years she studied maternal and child health in seven countries and completed her early training as a midwife at a high-volume birth center in Indonesia, where she gained a reverence for the innate strength and resilience in birthing bodies.
Since becoming a midwife, Morgan has birthed two of her own children - each birth greatly informing her midwifery practice and an even stronger belief in the importance of midwifery care. Adjacent to her midwifery training, Morgan is certified in Arvigo Abdominal Massage, Body Ready Method, and Holistic Pelvic Care — all modalities that inform healthier, stronger and more comfortable pregnancy, birth and postpartum experiences.
Evaly Long, LM, CPM (she/her)
Evaly is a California-licensed midwife, Certified Professional Midwife and the founder of Island Midwifery. She discovered midwifery in 2007 while listening to a segment about midwives on the local public radio station. That was enough to set her on the path to becoming a midwife. She would also learn that homebirth had been a family affair with her mom and four siblings being born at home in Mexico con una Partera (a midwife), and her dad and two siblings born at home in South Carolina. Over three years Evaly apprenticed at Sage Femme Birth Center in San Francisco, with Tres Lunas Midwifery homebirth practice, and Pacifica Family Maternity Center in Berkeley. Along the way Evaly and her husband welcomed their twin daughters, now ten years old, at St Luke’s Hospital, and their son in December 2014, born at home.
Evaly is most excited to help families build their knowledge and confidence through resources, information, and building community. She tries to always hold the pregnancy, birthing, and postpartum journey in the highest honor by listening to what is being said and unsaid by her clients. She knows she and her family live on the ancestral homeland of the Ohlone people that was forcefully taken and hasn’t been given back. As a Mexican and white, light skinned person Evaly is continuously working to root out white supremacy from herself, her family, and larger institutions. She knows that many in the BIPOC, POC, LGBTQ+, and female-identified peoples have been hurt by the medical system and we carry that pain in our bodies. She believes that midwives are one bridge between marginalized communities and safe, respectful healthcare in part because of their mutual relationship built on trust.
Audrey Dombroski, student midwife (she/her)
Audrey has always had a passion for reproductive health and birth work. She graduated from medical school in 2017 with the intention of becoming an OB/GYN. While in school, her path to personal healing led her to the world of herbal medicine. Shortly after, she trained to become a clinical herbalist. Her love of midwifery began after working with midwives for the birth of her first child and that appreciation has continued to grow up until the home birth of her second child. She is currently enrolled as a student midwife at the Midwives College of Utah. Audrey believes in supporting families in making informed decisions about their childbirth experiences. She is passionate about diversifying midwifery and increasing accessibility of midwifery care to BIPOC communities.
